In another surprise announcement, the regular OnePlus 7 is receiving a similar update which was rolled out to its big brother. This new update is currently available for both the European and Global versions of the OnePlus 7 Pro. The changelog is rather small but again, does include Android’s August security patches. You’ll find download links for the OxygenOS 9.5.8 full ROM as well as the incremental OTA update (for both regions) right here.
Over the weekend, OnePlus announced a brand new OTA update for both the European and Global variants of the OnePlus 7 Pro. This update will bring your smartphone up to OxygenOS 9.5.8 and is currently rolling out to devices around the world. There isn’t a need to fear for any glitches that were reported in previous updates either.
Instead, this new update surprised everyone as it’s the first to receive Android’s security patches for August 2019.
Just like the OnePlus 7 Pro, this is OnePlus 7 owners for a number of reasons. The biggest, though, is because the smartphone has been one month behind when it comes to security updates since launch. This is understandable (in some ways) since it was a big launch for the company. It marked the first time they would bring two devices to the market at the same time.
We aren’t seeing much else in terms of changes in this update though. The company has worked a bit on some minor tweaks but the bulk of the work done in this over-the-air update was put in integrating Android’s official security patches.

Along with getting up to date with the latest Android security patches, the folks over at OnePlus have also included some optimizations in this new update as well. We aren’t getting many details in the other changes that come with this update. It could be that most of them fit in the typical “general bug fixes and improvements” category, but who knows.
It seems a number of people had reported the Notification Bar was being touched some times when the user was in a phone call. This update also includes a newer version of Google Mobile Services (GMS). Lastly, we are told that the OnePlus software engineering team has optimized how the smartphone’s automatic brightness feature works.
OnePlus 7 OxygenOS 9.5.8 Changelog
- Optimized Adaptive Brightness
- Optimized the accidental touches with notification bar in calling
- Updated GMS to 2019.06
- Updated Android security patch to 2019.08
- General bug fixes and improvements
As with all of these updates, you can install them in a number of different ways. If you are not rooted and are on the previous version of OxygenOS (9.5.7 in this case), then you can just download the (smaller) OTA update and install it through the local update system. You just have to make sure you put the file in the root directory of your internal storage.
Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Gear Icon (top right) -> Local Upgrade
If you’re rooted, then the process is a bit more complicated. I would like to get a video put up about this soon. However, I’m currently in the process of getting my device replaced. Look forward to seeing that in a future tutorial as I will also be embedding those videos here too.
